Do I need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy treatment?
No. Whilst physiotherapists maintain a strong link with GP’s, it is not necessary to be referred by one. However, we do recommend that you contact your private health insurance company as they may require a medical referral to authorise reimbursement of treatment charges.
Is the cost of physiotherapy covered by medical insurance?
Yes. If the physiotherapist is chartered and HPC registered (we are). It is advisable to check with your insurance company before starting treatment as they may need to pre-authorise it.
How quickly can I be seen?
We will always try to offer an appointment on the same day or within 24 hours.
How do I know if a physiotherapist is fully qualified?
All chartered physiotherapists have undergone the required training and passed the necessary exams to enable them to practice. They will have the letters MCSP after their names and be HPC registered.
What is electrotherapy?
Electrotherapy includes ultrasound and interferential treatments. They use electrical energy waves which affect tissues by reducing swelling, pain and muscle spasm. Thus it promotes healing.
Can a physiotherapist manipulate?
Yes, all chartered physiotherapists with the appropriate postgraduate training can manipulate.
Is Physiotherapy treatment appropriate for back and neck problems or is it only useful for muscle injuries?
Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified to treat all spinal problems. In fact, a large percentage of their workload is made up of neck and back problems. Orthopaedic Consultants (Surgeons who operate on and treat spinal problems) refer nearly all their patients to Physiotherapists.
How long does each session last?
30 minutes for the initial consultation – 30 minutes for a follow-up session.
