Conditions explained

Repetitive strain injury

A repetitive strain injury is the term used to describe a wide range of injuries specifically caused by the repeated movement of a particular part of the body such as the shoulder, wrist, fingers and neck. Repetitive strain injuries commonly affect nerves, tendons and muscles. At KD Physiotherapy your physiotherapist will provide you with treatment which may consist of exercises, stretches, strength work and electrotherapy. This will accelerate healing time, gain strength, reduce inflammation and pain, accelerating the recovery from your condition.

Back pain

Back pain can be caused by poor posture, muscle strains, joint damage and prolapsed /slipped vertebral disks, all of which can cause persistent aching/sharp pain. At KD Physiotherapy our expert spinal physiotherapists can professionally assess your condition and devise an effective treatment plan to help manage your problem.

Pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain

Back pain and pelvic pain (symphysis pubis dysfunction) are common problems during pregnancy. Fortunately, our specialist physiotherapists at can provide effective interventions (mobilisations, stability exercises, trigger therapy etc) to reduce your pain and allow you to return to normal function.

Frequently asked questions...

Do I need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy treatment?

No. Whilst physiotherapists maintain a strong link with GP's, it is not necessary to be referred by one. However, we do recommend that you contact your private health insurance company as they may require a medical referral to authorise reimbursement of treatment charges.

Is the cost of physiotherapy covered by medical insurance?

Yes. If the physiotherapist is chartered and HPC registered (we are). It is advisable to check with your insurance company before starting treatment as they may need to pre-authorise it.

How quickly can I be seen?

We will always try to offer an appointment on the same day or within 24 hours.

How do I know if a physiotherapist is fully qualified?

All chartered physiotherapists have undergone the required training and passed the necessary exams to enable them to practice. They will have the letters MCSP after their names and be HPC registered.

What is electrotherapy?

Electrotherapy includes ultrasound and interferential treatments. They use electrical energy waves which affect tissues by reducing swelling, pain and muscle spasm. Thus it promotes healing.

Can a physiotherapist manipulate?

Yes, all chartered physiotherapists with the appropriate postgraduate training can manipulate.

Is Physiotherapy treatment appropriate for back and neck problems or is it only useful for muscle injuries?

Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified to treat all spinal problems. In fact, a large percentage of their workload is made up of neck and back problems. Orthopaedic Consultants (Surgeons who operate on and treat spinal problems) refer nearly all their patients to Physiotherapists.

How long does each session last?

30 minutes for the initial consultation - 30 minutes for a follow-up session.

"The difference that KD physiotherapy has made to my life is staggering.
After being involved in a bad car accident, I was having doubts that I would ever regain the proper use of my left leg.
Even after the first couple of sessions, the results were amazing.
With KD's help I am no walking completely unaided again, and have been able to successfully return to work in my former capacity.
All I can say is thank you, I was beginning to think I would never get to this point.

"I am currently having treatment for neck pain and am seeing a big improvement in my mobility and pain level. I previously saw Kevin through my car insurer last year following a car accident and he resolved my back pain, so I had no hesitation in contacting him privately for my neck pain. Kevin is really accommodating to book appointments before work and the Drayton site is easy to access with free parking outside. Thank you, Kevin."
